Improve the Template
Our templates include a style guide for reference to identify the content created, and to clarify the reasons for specific decision making. This style guide is documented using the finished template as a further test of the quality of the template.
Templates require creativity, technical knowledge, the ability to design to specifications and practical experience to succeed.
Template Development
We provide all services related to developing and automating FrameMaker templates.
In developing a template we work with you to review your software tools and identify specific needs. Since the template is the basis of any new documentation we spend time with you to look at legacy files and evaluate content such as style guides and existing templates.
Based on the results of the document review we identify the key components that are required. In many cases this includes a mix of design elements and specific types of content. If you are creating templates for automated import and export of XML, then structural elements must also be considered. Finally, a good template also includes support for generated content such as the table of contents, index and other front and back matter.
Design elements
We evaluate and develop a number of specific design elements into templates. These include:
- Page size
- Column layouts
- Side head configurations
- Headers and footers
- Watermark images
- Custom pages (first page, rotated pages)
Content elements
Once the overall configuration of pages is developed, content specific elements need to be developed. These include:
- Paragraph formats
- Character formats
- Table formats
- Cross references
- Conditional content
Structural elements
If required, structural support must be developed including:
- The ability to import XML
- Validation of XML
- Format of XML
- Development of an EDD
- Read/Write rules to import/export XML
- Automated format based on tags
